The Albanian Boris
Born, bred, and raised between Germany, Albania, and the US—fluent in languages, history, and the fine art of making Albania make sense.
About The Albanian Boris
My name is Boris Alibali (not Alibaba).
I am a certified national tour guide in Albania, fluent in both English and German at a native level.
I am a freelancer but my main partner is
www.albanienreisen.ch
I never planned on becoming a tour guide. Born in 1993 and raised in Germany with an unmistakably non-Albanian name (I'll explain), my biggest concern when my family moved back to Albania in 2001 was the tragic absence of real Nutella.
Determined to escape, later in my adult life I spent six years studying and working in the U.S., only for life to throw in a plot twist—
I came back.
Not just for a visit, but to stay. Somewhere between chasing opportunities abroad and trying to make sense of my enigmatic roots, I found myself as the Albanian Boris—your slightly critical but always entertaining gateway to understanding this fascinating, often misunderstood country. Through history, humor, and personal experiences, I aim to show you an Albania beyond outdated misconceptions and occasional bizarre realities.
Oh, and let's not forget that a bit more money saved up from the U.S. also helped me finally explore some of Albania’s other valleys and mountains—something I never quite had the budget for before. So, yeah, it took me years of education and work across the Atlantic just to afford a better view of my own country!
Be prepared for a factual approach, thanks to my German upbringing and background as a student of history. You’ll also get a taste of the Albanian humor and straightforwardness I carry with me, and the optimism I’m thankful to America for, which keeps me going and energized, shaping my approach to life and, especially, to guiding you through Albania.
Welcome to the Albanian Boris.
